After the UC application has been filed, applicants are required to submit a Department of Design | Media Arts supplemental application. Applicants for the Design | Media Arts major at UCLA will be emailed detailed instructions and a link in early January to the online supplemental application. The portfolio and supplemental application materials are due in mid-January (applicants will be notified of the exact date) and will include the following specific departmental requirements:

I.CREATIVE TEXT

In 140 characters or less, write about the color YELLOW. We recommend that you write your statement in a separate word processing program, then cut and paste it into the web application.

II. SELF PORTRAIT

Submit a self portrait in the medium or media of your choice. The self portrait may be one still image, or a multimedia file (audio and/or video). The multimedia file is limited to 30 seconds.

III. PROJECT

Make one great project about the color YELLOW, in the media of your choice. Your documentation of this project should be one to three (1-3) still images and/or one (1) multimedia file. You may submit only still images, or only multimedia, or you may submit in both areas, but you are required to submit work in at least one area. The multimedia file is limited to 2 minutes.

IV. UNIQUE WORK

In this category, you are required to submit ten (10) still images. You also have the option of submitting one (1) multimedia file. The multimedia file is limited to 3 minutes.

All supplemental material must be submitted through the online upload system; any physical material submitted to the department cannot be considered in the review process. 1. Cinematic Arts Personal Statement (please upload in PDF format)
   The Cinematic Arts personal statement should be a carefully prepared explanation of the applicant's goals, describing any film, television, scholarly, critical or other creative background, as well as career objectives. It should present a clear and accurate picture of the applicant, outline objectives in the field of critical studies and explain how attending the School of Cinematic Arts will help reach these goals.
2. Writing Sample (please upload in PDF format)
   The writing sample should be a review or analysis of some aspect of film, television, or new media; a discussion or application of critical theory; or a published article.
3. Letters of Recommendation (One letter must be an academic reference) 
   Three letters of recommendation (no particular format) are required. All letters of recommendation must be submitted via the SlideRoom references system. Applicants are responsible for requesting letters of recommendation as well as confirming that they have been received. Letters submitted via the Common Application may be used towards the three letters of recommendation required.

Chapman (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Arts)

FOR SPRING 2014:

FOR FALL 2014:

• Freshman Early Action (non-binding): November 1
• Freshman Regular Admission: January 15
• Transfer Regular Admission: March 15

Choose one of the two options below to demonstrate your digital arts skills:
• Portfolio Review — Submit a portfolio of artistic work (15 pieces max.) demonstrating technical drawing skills (life drawing, still life drawings, and action sketches), computer literacy, and inventiveness (creativity of concept, good composition, pleasing color palettes, etc.). The portfolio should demonstrate both artist and technical skills.
• Video Review — Submit a sample reel (visual portfolio) of no more than six minutes. This reel may contain edited clips or a complete narrative story and must showcase primarily digital arts skills such as animation or visual effects.
